Ep 44: Your Joy Is the Transmission
You've probably been treating enjoyment like a reward you have to earn.
What if your joy was the work?
In this episode
What Asha's intuitive reader training revealed about the healer's actual responsibility: transmission, not transformation
The professor story: why detaching from the outcome made her a better teacher (and what it freed her from)

Today, I wanna talk to you about doing things from a place of joy. I've been in my intuitive reader trainer course that I have mentioned not specifically by name, but for the past year and some change, I have been learning how to teach people how to tap into their intuitions so that they can become intuitive readers. It's the same course that I took where I learned how to unlock my intuition, which gave me
and some other courses, the foundation for being able to do the work that I'm doing here at the studio at Asha's Place and in my coaching work and all of that stuff. But we were talking about what is our responsibility, not... We were talking about what is our role as healers and whether or not we are responsible for the outcome or just for the transmission.
And our teacher told us that we are responsible for the transmission, that we need to just rest in and be sure that what we give is enough. And she also explained that when she is doing readings, when she is teaching, she is also receiving energy and she is being filled up and that she is, you know, physically often tired after teaching or after
doing a healing session or leading a retreat as makes sense because she's using her body to physically show up and to be there, but that she receives just as much energy from the channeling and the delivering of the message as the people that she is talking to. And so she is not concerned with the outcome or whether or not people have
a transformation because she's trusting that her own energy like increasing or her own transmission is enough and that it's going to do what it needs to do. Now, I hope that this kind of makes sense. Let me give you a little bit more background. I've been a teacher full time. I was a full time professor starting in 2017 and left my full time teaching position in the fall of
Asha (02:21.326)
2023, I believe it was, fall of 2023. And I realized that there was a whole lot of energy output that would happen as I was teaching. And I remember having to make some very clear decisions for myself as I was teaching adults at a community college running a paralegal program that I was going to do my best to educate the students,
but I was going to let them do with the information what they wanted to do. Now I had a colleague who would be so offended when a student would miss class or turn in homework late. It was like it was a personal affront to her and to her teaching. And I remember deciding, I'm gonna show up and I'm gonna do my job really well. And whatever the students do with it is totally up to them. I don't know what else is going on in their lives. I don't know what they're competing against. If they ask me for help, of course I'm gonna give it, but I'm not going to assume
that I have done something wrong if they make a choice not to turn in their homework or if they need to skip class for some reason. And this became so freeing because it meant that I could just focus on what I was showing up to do and to deliver. And it took the pressure off in a way that this other person, this other professor was not able to experience because she was taking the outcome so personally that if she would...
have stronger rules or be a meaner teacher or whatever, then it would change the outcome, which totally left no room for the human experience. Then I started thinking about this in my life now. And when I first started doing readings and leading breath work and creating meditations, I would be so concerned about whether or not the delivery transformed the other person. And then at some point I had to step back and realize that this is
something I can't control, but what I can control is how I show up in what I do. Now let me connect this to Joy. As we were talking in our class the last couple of weeks, again, my professor, my teacher said she gets filled up from the energy just by delivering and that she has more, she didn't call it fun, but she has her own kind of energetic upgrade and glow up by doing the work.

And then I left class and the very next night I ended up sitting at the bar across the street from the studio from Asha's Place in Bairro Alto and this DJ y'all was getting down like he was playing the best mixes and tracks and I kept trying to Shazam them because I wanted to put them to my playlist. But then I realized like he was actually mixing. He was actually putting tracks together that weren't on Shazam. He wasn't just playing a playlist of songs.
And you know, I like to dance a little bit and I don't really care if anyone else is dancing. So I stood up, danced a little bit in the booth that I was sitting in. And then I looked over and I was momentarily just captured by his joy. And he was, I mean, he was dancing. He was, I mean, just everything you think of, of someone enjoying their very own dance party. And I realized that that's exactly what he was doing. His joy was coming.
first and it translated into how the rest of us felt about the experience. His joy helped the transmission of energy because he was having so much fun. His vibration was so high that I also felt it and the people that I was with also felt it. And it made me think about the conversations that I was having in my class and what I told you about my teaching experience. And I just started thinking about
How much joy am I bringing to what I'm doing now? And this is actually a conversation that comes up for me or a reminder that comes up for me frequently. I tend to take my work so seriously that enjoyment doesn't become a factor in it. And I'm thinking, like, I need to actually think about how much fun I'm having and making sure that whatever I'm doing, that my joy is primary, that my joy
is front and center because the more that I am enjoying what I'm doing, then the more that that transmission is going to come through for the people that I am working with, for the people that I am guiding, for the people I'm reading for, for the people I'm creating experiences with. And so as you are moving throughout your week and you're handling your daily tasks and doing what you need to do, I want you to think about where is your enjoyment in the process.
Asha (07:07.498)
And is there a way that you can make what you're doing a little more fun for you and trust that your joy will show up in the outcome? It will show up for the people that you are serving, that you're delivering for, whether it's your colleagues, your clients, your kids, your family, your friends. Because we so often allow ourselves to have fun as a reward or we think that work shouldn't be enjoyable.
But what if it could be? What if you could center your own joy and move through that? How would things be different? How would you show up? How much enthusiasm or excitement would you have? And how do you think that would affect the people that you are doing this work for? So I just want you to sit with that. And I would love to know how it goes for you.
